TechRadars TechRadaris.com TechRadaru.comTechRadar.com”There are three categories for electricity,” said Michael Whelan, chief executive of Electricity Australia.
“The one we’re focused on right now is residential.
The other two are the major retailers and the gas utilities.
There’s a lot of uncertainty in the energy market right now, and I think that’s one of the things that we’re really focused on is ensuring that we don’t lose too much certainty and start to lose some certainty.”
It’s very much a mixed bag for us in terms of the energy sector.
“Mr Whelanyan said he had no specific targets for the energy industry, but the Government had already set a target of a 5% reduction in emissions by 2020.”
What I think we’re looking at is a very significant reduction in electricity demand and that’s going to have a huge impact on the economy and on our overall economic wellbeing, which is why we’re pushing for a reduction in our emissions by 2040,” he said.”
That’s a target that we have set.
It’s a significant reduction.
“The report also said the Government’s Climate Action Plan would have a positive impact on electricity prices, but it was not clear how the Government would pay for it.”
We’ve got a couple of measures that we’ve introduced that we’ll be looking at later in the year,” Mr Whelansaid.”
So it’s very uncertain, but we’re working hard to get the plan through Parliament and to get it into the policy books.
“Mr Turnbull also revealed that the Government was planning to build new coal power stations, but would not comment on whether the Government will have to pay for them.”
There will be no costs associated with the coal plants and they’re part of the Climate Action plan,” Mr Turnbull said.
